The Artistry and Elegance of Indian Rugs

At The Rug Gallery of Newburgh, a large portion of our inventory is imported directly from India. Indian hand knotted rugs are known for their long-lasting beauty, durability, and timeless patterns. They bring warmth and sophistication to any room in your home or office.

The Art of Making Rugs: 400+ Years

India is one of the world’s leading producers of hand knotted rugs. And Indian weavers are true masters of the trade. The rug making industry in India has supported a community of millions of skilled artisans for more than 400 years.

Every hand knotted rug is made carefully and skillfully, knot by knot. Some of our finest pieces at The Rug Gallery of Newburgh feature more than one hundred knots per square inch. Crafting rugs is a detailed process that can take months, or sometimes years, to complete. Considering this level of expertise, an Indian Rug is far

more than a simple covering for your floor. It is art designed to last for decades, often becoming a family heirloom to be cherished by generations.

Transforming Spaces with Tones, Colors and Texture

Whether you are updating a cozy home or an office space, you can completely transform your room based on your vision.

• Warm & Dramatic: Choose deep, rich tones to create an upscale, cozy and intimate atmosphere.
• Light & Airy: Add a rug design that includes soft, neutral tones to make a small room feel spacious and brighter.

• Texture: The physical texture of a high-quality wool rug adds incredible comfort under your feet.

Protect Your Area Rug

To extend the life of your Indian rug, follow these simple maintenance tips:

• Vacuum regularly: Keep dirt from settling into the fibers. When vacuuming, always use the ‘floor’ or ‘suction only’ setting. Avoid using the spinning / rotating brush.
• Protect the fringe: Never run a vacuum over the fringe edges.
• Blot spills immediately: Clean spills gently with a soft, clean cloth. Never scrub.
• Always use a rug pad: A quality rug pad prevents the rug from slipping, absorbs impact, and protects both the rug and your flooring.
• Trust the professionals: Schedule a professional cleaning every few years to deeply refresh the fibers.
